Hughes News #112

"Tie your shoes and pray for the Hughes"

Dear Friends,

Here in Moldova we celebrated our Savior’s resurrection on April 12, a week after those in the States.  Though two and a half weeks have passed, you can still hear people greeting one another with “Christ is risen!  He is risen indeed!  To prepare for that day, in our midweek service on April 9 we focused on the arrest, trial and crucifixion of Jesus.  We sang several songs focusing on His death and read a number of passages together.  On the day itself we had brunch with folks in Soroca, followed by our service.  In the afternoon we had our service in Bulboci then a meal afterwards.  Both the services remembering the resurrection and the fellowship around the table were a blessing.

He was only with us for a month, but our house felt a little empty after our nephew, Paul Jon Hitz, left last week.  It was a joy for us to spend more time with him, get to know him better, play games, and introduce him to our adopted country and our life here.  One of the weeks he helped us work upstairs in our house – installing supports for drywall, hanging drywall, taping and mudding.  We didn’t get as far in the project as I’d hoped, but we made good progress.  We think he enjoyed his trip, but we don’t think he quite understands how much his visit meant to us.

With our coworkers back on a furlough, we will have a few extra weekly responsibilities the next few months.  Now that our nephew’s visit has come to an end we are turning our focus to planning for summer.  We have tentative dates set for VBS as well as some general ideas, but need to start developing those plans.

In His service,
Jacob and Viola Hughes
