Our Call to Moldova

It was during our undergraduate studies at Ambassador Baptist College that we first heard of Moldova. A man was preaching in chapel about missions. Though not the main part of his message, he mentioned a missionary family that for various reasons could no longer serve in Moldova. This man then asked who would go to take their place. After hearing this, we both became interested in Moldova. Sometime later our mission’s professor began researching a people group in Moldova, the Gagauz. As he began sharing what he was learning, we became further interested in this country. We really knew very little about the country but continued to think of it as a possibility for our future.

After we were married, Jacob continued his education at Ambassador. We were praying for God to show us where we were to serve Him but in the fall of 2007, God challenged our hearts to actively pursue His will by visiting Moldova. In May of 2008, we were able to take a two week survey trip to Moldova. It was a very profitable time for us and we learned so much about Moldova. We were able to meet the other Independent Baptist Missionaries in the country as well as many believers who shared the needs of Moldova with us. When we returned home we definitely knew that there was a need for the light of the Gospel in Moldova but we did not know for sure that it was where God wanted us.

A few months later God used some godly counsel to confirm to us that Moldova was indeed where we were to serve Him. Since then, we have claimed Acts 26:18 as His will for us in Moldova: “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”
