"Tie your shoes and pray for the Hughes" |
The second week of August, a friend and I were able to conduct another scouting trip to Comrat. The Lord blessed our time: we learned more about the spiritual condition of the people, found where several different churches meet, and fellowshipped with some believers. It was a blessing to find that there are more churches of like faith in that region that I had initially thought, but that fact has made our decision for future ministry more difficult. We do not feel God has closed the door to Comrat, but I believe God would have us consider other cities as well.
It was a blessing having visitors from the States! Jacob’s mom and her friend came to see us for a week and a half. We enjoyed sharing our life in Moldova with them and introducing them to the people that have been such a help to us. The Lord allowed the timing to work out so that I preached my first Russian message while my mom was here. I am grateful she was able to be there (even if she needed Viola to translate to know what I was saying). Now, it is time to begin preparing message #2!
On Monday, I had my first formal Romanian lesson. The first set of lessons will last seven weeks. In this bilingual country, we feel it necessary to be at least functional in both languages. We plan to monitor the situation during these seven weeks to make sure the Romanian study does not hinder my Russian lessons. Thank you for your prayers to the Lord on our behalf!
In His service,
Jacob and Viola Hughes
